A couple of months ago when I was looking for recipes and activities to do with dandelions I discovered the nerdyfarmwife blog and I became inspired. The blog is filled with lots of natural soap recipes that use ingredients such as dandelions, daisies, lavender and more. I found a Dandelion lotion bar recipe that I really wanted to try and finally this week my daughter and I made our first batch and they are absolutely perfect for little gardening hands. I am going to share with you how we made our Dandelion lotion bars but will include the links to the recipe I used as there is a lot of knowledge and experience there.
In order to make the lotion bars we first had to make a dandelion infused oil, so before the dandelions turned to seed the kids and I went and collected a bunch of flower heads to make a dandelion infused oil. We picked as many as we could find, washed them and then left them to dry on some kitchen towel for a couple of days before placing them in an air tight jar filled with olive oil. We left the jar on a windowsill for 6 weeks.
I followed the following instructions to make the Infused oil: How to make a dandelion infused oil

The lotion bars were very easy and quick to make. Our daughter enjoyed adding all the ingredients into the tin but she left the melting to me. We made 12 lotion bars using the following method.
- 1/2 cup beeswax
- 1/2 mango butter
- 1/2 dandelion oil
- Put all the ingredients together into a clean tin can and place into a saucepan.
- Fill the saucepan halfway up the tin and gently simmer until everything is melted and combined
- Tip the melted ingredients into your silicone moulds and leave to set.

We really enjoyed making these lotion bars and cannot wait to try some more recipes.
